Burglars tied Ryton man’s hands after smashing front door

MASKED and hooded burglars tied up a Ryton-on-Dunsmore man and locked him in a bedroom after demanding money in a break-in yesterday (Thursday February 23).

The thieves smashed the front door of the house in Leamington Road at around 7.30pm.

The householder was in the bathroom and the thieves threatened him and demanded money before tying his hands, locking him in a bedroom and fleeing from the house.

Their victim managed to escape from the room and raised the alarm with a passer-by.

The burglars are described as three or four men, white and wearing dark clothing and hooded tops with the hoods up, as well as white disposable gloves and wearing coverings to hide their faces. One is described as being over six feet tall.

The victim was described as shocked but not injured.

Police would like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in Leamington Road, Ryton-on-Dunsmore at around 7.30pm on Thursday evening and anyone who may have seen anything unusual in the road between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.

Det Con Andrew Lea, who is investigating the burglary said: “This was a frightening attack which took place within the man’s home and we need to trace the people who did this.

“There would have been a disturbance when they smashed the door which may have attracted the attention people in the street, but we would also like to hear from anyone who saw anyone waiting around in the street, or in a car, prior to the burglary taking place.”
