Apprentices help to build new homes in Kineton

Ross Aitken and Liam Gardiner are both working at the Kineton site while studying at college one day a week.

Ross, 20, said: “I was a chef for four years beforehand, but the money and working hours were terrible and I just thought carpentry would be a better career. There are a lot of opportunities in this profession and you can earn a really good living, so it was a no-brainer to be honest.”

Liam, 20, said: “I did my two week trial and then they said they wanted me full time. I’m loving the apprenticeship. It’s what I always wanted to do.”

Site manager at Kineton Meadows, Jon Nicolls, said: “Ross and Liam are both really good lads, dedicated and hard working. Their mentors Pete Sharpe and Mark Kilworth speak very highly of them and are really pleased with their progress.”

Bloor Homes has taken on 33 new apprentices since September.

Adrian Taylor, one of the apprentice masters recruited by Bloor to supervise their apprentices, said: “The scheme is unparalleled in the housebuilding industry. It is a fantastic opportunity for apprentices to acquire the skills they need to become first class tradespeople.

“There is always going to be a demand for workers in the construction industry, so it’s important we bring on the next generation of builders.”
