Twenty-year-old Kelly Marsh died after the car in which she travelling as a passenger ploughed into a tree on Lighthorne Road in November 2005.

Last Friday (April 12) just before 7pm, a woman was seriously injured after the car she was driving crashed into that very same tree.

Ambulance and fire crews had to cut her out of the car, which was totally wrecked in the incident.

The woman, believed to be in her early 20s, had suffered serious leg injuries and also hurt her neck and back. It took the crews around 20 minutes to free her, before she was taken to the University Hospital in Coventry for treatment.

Speaking afterwards, Kelly’s mother Jane Marsh, now a vocal campaigner for road safety charity Brake, said: “When I went there to place flowers for Kel, I saw the broken glass and damage. It brought everything back to me only too clearly.

“I wish the young lady concerned a speedy recovery.

“I have no idea what happened to cause the accident, but I do hope that the local councillors will now ask for the road speed limit to be reassessed on Lighthorn Road as there have been too many incidents on that road over the years.

“Just how many deaths and serious injuries does it take to help prevent these horrifying life changing events happening to others?”
