Annual fete gave villagers chance to showcase talents

VILLAGERS showcased their gardening and cookery skills at a yearly event in Leek Wootton at the weekend.

The Leek Wootton and District Horticultural Society’s Annual Show and Fete included competitions for adults and children.

After a panel of judges inspected the various entries, prizes were given for the best floral displays, vegetables, jams, eggs, wine, cakes, miniature gardens, vegetable animals toys, black and white computer-generated images and toys made from recycled materials.

Visitors were asked to vote for their favourite photographs which included scenes throughout the UK and images from farming.

There were also stalls, refreshments and a cake sale.

Exhibitors auctioned off their produce at the end of the day.

Proceeds from the event will go to good causes in the village.

Mary Murdock, secretary for the horticultural society and an organiser for the event, said: “It was absolutely brilliant and we were extremely glad about and very fortunate with the weather once again.

It’s a village favourite and we had many, many, visitors including friends and neighbours.”
