Councillors at Wednesday's planning meeting of Stratford District Council were told that applicants, the Heart of England Co-Operative, had already altered its plans for the former Acorn Stores, in Coventry Street, from the company’s traditional purple colour to a more subtle white and grey. The building is within the town’s conservation area.

And planning officer Ryan O’Keeffe also revealed that the repainting had been done prior to the meeting - but with a few changes.

He explained: “It has come to light that prior to committee, the signage and works as part of the advertisement consent sought has already been undertaken on site.

“It has been further brought to officers’ attention that the works carried out are different to the scheme put forward for consent under this advertisements application in that the colour scheme has introduced a secondary colour to the shopfront (black).

“The agent for the application has advised that the plans submitted under this application are still the ones they seek approval for and if the application is approved they will amend the works on site to reflect the approved plans.”

Local ward member Cllr Tony Bromwich (Ind, Southam North) objected to the plans for the signage but committee members approved the application.
