Leamington engineering firm Tecman’s new visor to protect staff at work

An innovative engineering company in Leamington Spa is helping companies return to work with specially designed protective gear.

Tecman based in Berrington Road, has developed a new visor to provide face and eye protection for workers who are required to wear a peaked visor or baseball cap during their working day.

The company, which was creating one million face shields a week for NHS staff on the frontline of care provision for coronavirus patients, hopes its new development will enable a new tranche of employees to return to work.

Kevin Porter, Tecman’s technical director, said: “Our original design of protective face shields have proved to be essential for many vulnerable workers, but we won’t stop there.

“Spurred on by the success of our original visor, the team put their thinking caps on and came up with this new version to boost the health and safety of employees who wear baseball caps as part of their uniform.

“We’ve begun consulting frontline staff to establish their needs and concerns, and we are incorporating their feedback in our design and manufacturing process.

“This ongoing consultation is a vital part of our mission to create the best possible protective products.”

Mr Porter said the new visor had been designed for maximum comfort and protection with the cap shield held in place with a soft elasticated strap that curves the visor around the face.

The protective visor is manufactured from clear, anti-fog optical grade film and medical grade materials, which means the wearer’s face is completely visible helping to make interaction with customers a more personal experience for staff and customers.

Development of the new product underpins Tecman’s vision to become a world leader in the development and manufacture of face and eye protection, under the name Tecman Advanced Healthcare Products. The firm created 30 jobs in April as it stepped up production of protective gear for health workers and last month created a further 10 jobs with the development of a new production facility in Ramsey Road.
