I did a news search on Google this week for ‘national bowls, Leamington’ and I was absolutely delighted with the results.

Of course, the Courier’s coverage of the national event here in the town came high on the list but I was so pleased to see dozens of ‘hits’ from news websites up and down the country.

Bowls might not be everybody’s cup of tea just as everyone isn’t interested in the Chelsea Flower Show. But what the bowls and our recent entry at Chelsea show is that if Leamington and the whole of Warwickshire is active in sport and other events, the profile of the region is raised outside the area.

That has to be a good thing and anything we can do to bring the spotlight to Leamington, Kenilworth, Warwick and the surrounding area, and the wonderful attractions we have, will bring economic benefits to the region.

Companies also trade with fellow local businesses and the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce has a great track record in bringing firms together to do business.

Some of that is through member to member offers via the Chamber’s website but much of it comes about through face-to-face networking at events across the region.

In the next couple of months, two of the biggest events in the Chamber calendar are taking place.

Firstly, the Business & Trade Expo at Stoneleigh Park is happening on Friday September 26, from 10am until 3pm. That is followed by the Chamber’s 13th annual conference at the Belgrade Theatre on Friday October 17. A keynote address will be given by chief executive of leading retailer Timpson, John Timpson, who will provide an insight into his unique business philosophy ‘Upside-down management’.
