Words and plays out for festival

Showcasing the very best literary talents from across the district, the five-day festival will include work from leading writers as well as mucic and family activities.

Events run from Wednesday (October 1) to Sunday, kicking off with a centenary celebration of writer, Dylan Thomas, at the Lord Leycester Hospital.

Literary events will continue with Words and Tunes at The Wild Boar on Wednesday, and a talk on terror and faith in Elizabethan England.

On Thursday, radio presenter, writer and journalist Andy Kershaw will talk at the Bridge House Theatre, delving into his past to entertain from 7.30pm.

Special guests this year include: Wendy Cope, Charles Spencer, Tracey Thorn, Alison Weir, Jo Baker, Roger Moorhouse, Kate Williams, Suzannah Dunn and Jessie Childs.

The week will also continue year-long commemoration events for the First World War with the talk, Stolen Lives – Individual Tragedies of the Great War on Thursday from 7.30pm at Lord Leycester Hospital.

And visitors to the Bridge House Theatre, on Saturday, from 11.30am, can get a chance to find out about the production of War Horse. Saturday will also include a family fun day at the Market Hall Museum to bring all ages together for storytelling, poetry, workshops and crafts.

The Warwick Words Writers Group will put events including Wednesday’s open mic and a final showcase of poetry, prose and scripts. It runs from 5.30pm on October 5 at the Lord Leycester Hospital .

Writer Nigel Hutchinson said: “The group has traditionally taken part in the festival and we are looking forward to being joined by Threezacrowd at The Wild Boar for what promises to be a fun evening.”
