Warwick concert will commemorate the First World War through music and words

The internationally-known Fine Arts Brass ensemble and television and theatre star Tim Woodward are joining the Warwickshire-based Saint James’ Singers for a First World War commemorative concert at St Mary’s church in Warwick tomorrow (Saturday May 10).

The evening will include performances of Purcell’s Queen Mary’s Funeral Sentences, Walton’s Henry V suite, Parry’s I Was Glad, popular songs from the war and Saint James’ Singers conductor Julian Harris’s own setting of Siegfried Sassoon’s poem Everyone Sang.

Added to this, there will be readings themed on war and peace including from Shakespeare and John Donne and poetry by First World War poets Owen and Sassoon.

The concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £20 and £15, with proceeds going towards repairs to St Mary’s Beauchamp Chapel, roof and tower. Call 07502 939498.
