The singing hairdresser will be just one of the attractions at the one-day Warwickshire Pride festival at the Pump Room Gardens in the Parade on Saturday August 31 from 11am to 8pm.

The event, which aims to celebrate diversity in the community and to bring people from different backgrounds together, has been organised by the charity Push Projects run by Daniel Browne.

Mr Browne, the festival’s coordinator, said: “There is a growing buzz surrounding this event and there was a massively positive response from the public during a promotional drive at the Peace Festival.

“I am currently drumming up more support for the festival and looking for sponsorship from local businesses or local branches of national organisations.”

The event’s organiser have said that Warwickshire has been ‘lagging behind’ in regard to its representation of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community and through consultations with residents Mr Browne found there would be enough demand and support to hold the festival

There will be stalls selling things and raising awareness of community issues and the support available to people.

There will also be games, entertainment and performances throughout the day, with acts from around the county and further afield booked.

An after party will take place at the Altoria nightclub in Warwick Street with tickets being sold to raise money for Push Projects, which supports lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people aged up to 25 in Warwickshire.

Pride events take place worldwide.
