It’s A Wonderful Life is adapted from the Frank Capra film by Tony Palermo and directed by Guy Retallack.

The story follows idealist George Bailey, whose dreams look set to be dashed by small-town scandal and big business. Alone on a bridge, he decides that everyone would be better off without him – or would they? It falls to hapless guardian angel Clarence to try and save him.

In a new production that premiered to excellent reviews in London last year, the magical story of Frank Capra’s much-loved film and staple of the Christmas viewing schedules is retold as a radio play, complete with sound effects created live on stage.

A Spa Centre spokeswoman said: “This loving tribute to the golden era of the wireless is a fresh take on a heartwarming and timely classic.”

The show has been described by The Stage as “inspired” and “a lovely adaptation that’s both cleverly witty and movingly heartfelt”.

It’s A Wonderful Life takes to the stage at the Spa Centre on Sunday at 4pm. Tickets are £19.50 for adults, £18.50 for concessions and £15 for under-16s. Call 334418 or visit www.royalspacentreandtownhall.co.uk to book.
