‘Stunning athleticism’ is a visual spectacle

Leamington-based Motionhouse – one the UK’s leading dance-theatre companies – is marking 2015 with the return of its startling theatre production, Broken.

Previous tours have seen sell-outs and the shows are billed as “stunning athleticism and gravity-defying dance in an unashamedly visual and adrenaline-fuelled spectacle”.

It will be the last chance for UK audiences to see a Motionhouse theatre production until 2017, as Broken will head to the United States for its first our.

Broken explores the precarious relationship we have with the earth – contrasting the caves of our ancient ancestors with modern apartments of glass and steel. It questions our ambivalence towards the world as the dancers negotiate cracks and craters in this landscape of illusions where nothing is quite as it seems.

Artistic director Kevin Finnan said: “Broken is a trademark Motionhouse production. It is a visual spectacle that seamlessly integrates physical and emotive dance theatre alongside dazzling digital imagery, music and set design.”

As well as UK and overseas tours, which draw on theatre, acrobatics and film, Motionhouse continues to work in schools and supports young dancers through classes at its studios in Spencer Yard.

The UK tour includes the mac in Birmingham on March 10-11.
