Perhaps best known for her definitive version of I’d Rather Go Blind, or the power ballad Stay With Me, she has had three chart albums and a US number one with It’s Gonna Be Alright.

Born in Jamaica, Ruby came to Birmingham at the age of nine and it wasn’t long before her love of singing took her onto the stage around the country.

She has gone on to tour the world and perform with some of the biggest names in the business from the Four Tops, Temptations and Mick Jagger to Van Morrison and Seasick Steve, as well as appearing in Love Actually and Little Britain.

She said: “Right now I’m in a very good place.

“If I’ve learned one thing in this game it’s taking charge of your life. Get to know more about your business, and at the same time try to be true to yourself and your music.
