Hamsters bid farewell at Leamington gig

AFTER 25 years and over 4,500 concerts blues rock trio The Hamsters are hanging up their instruments.

But before they do, they are playing a concert at the Leamington Assembly this month as part of their farewell tour.

Formed in 1987 in Essex, they named themselves after a Sex Pistols pseudonym, aiming to combine humour and music, and built up a strong following on the pub circuit.

They are most closely associated with ZZ Top and Jimi Hendrix, and last year released a double live album of the tour they did to commemorate the death of Hendrix 40 years previously.

Instead of their usual brand of rock, Americana and blues, the final show in Leamington will play two full sets dedicated solely to the music of Jimi Hendrix and ZZ Top.

Guitarist Snail Pace Slim has been voted in the top 100 guitarists of all time, and members of the band have performed with the likes of Eric Clapton, Alison Moyet and Dr Feelgood.

The band claim to be serious about what they do, but not take themselves too seriously, and will bring their entertaining show to the Assembly for the last time on December 16 at 8pm.
