Friday Focus at Leamington gallery

SHAKESPEAREAN artefacts, a Lillington artist and conservation techniques will be the subject of lunchtime talks at Leamington art gallery and museum this autumn.

The programme of free Friday Focus talks will take place at the museum in Leamington’s Pump Room, every Friday at 1pm until December 9, with insights into some of the objects on show, behind-the-scenes information and talks about current exhibitions.

Today, the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust museum collections officer, Rozi Smith, will talk about the trust’s collections, making particular reference to the objects which are on loan for the gallery and museum’s current Lord Leicester’s Warwickshire exhibition.

On Friday, September 9, head gallery assistant Roz Crampton will give a guided tour of the Royal Pump Room, as part of this year’s Heritage Open Days.

The following week, curators Chloe Johnson and Alice Swatton will be giving an introduction to the re-hanging of the art gallery’s displays.

Peter Coulls, of Lillington Local History Society, will give a talk about the artist Herbert Cox on September 23, to introduce the newly-installed blue plaque at Cox’s former home, in Lillington.

There will be an hour-long Friday Focus Extra on Friday, September 30, when curator Max Fraser will give an introduction to the lab craft exhibition at the Art Gallery & Museum.

Events officer Nadia Wazera said: “We hope this autumn’s Friday Focus talks will be informative and entertaining.

“We have some very exciting guest speakers, including art and history experts and local personalities.”
