Fresh tracks from Leamington electro band

LEAMINGTON lads done good Post War Years have returned to the music scene with a new EP and an extensive catalogue of fresh tracks.

The four-piece electro band, who last played a gig in Leamington in 2009, will release the Glass House EP on Monday - a four track record from which the title single will be used for their forthcoming album.

Guitarist, electronics technician and vocalist Henry Riggs said the band had to take stock and work hard in the studio after underwhelming sales of their first record.

He said: “We had mediocre success and even though the record was really well received it just didn’t exactly blow up so we just went away and buried our heads in the sand.

“We went back to our day jobs and did some serious writing and recorded about 40 or 50 tracks and then last year we started making the record.

“We’re now in a position where we have a good supply of songs and we can put together ten which can sit together best on the album.”

Post War Years signed a recording deal with Chess Club Records just before Christmas and will release a second EP, The Bell, on the label in October before the launch of their as yet unnamed album at the end of the year.

Henry said: “It’s like James Blake, he built up a following off the back of his EPs which had a vibe of their own and then he put out a record which was totally different.”

Post War Years, who now live in either London or Norwich, have been making music since 2004 but they started taking their art more seriously in 2007 after they had all graduated from university.

They started out as a guitar-based indie band, influenced by the likes of Gomez and “slightly quirkier” bands but over the years have moved more towards electro, covering the same number of instruments and sounds in their music as a six-piece group would.

Having played gigs in New York before taking the stage at South by South West in Texas three years ago the band are hoping to return to the Big Apple for the CMJ festival in the autumn and completed a three-date mini tour this week.

And Henry said a smaller gig in Leamington could also take place soon.

He said: “We want to fill some smaller venues and get a party atmosphere going so we can test the water with our new stuff.

“It’s great to get back on the road again and show off our new live set up to people who may not have seen us in a while.”

Henry said the band are happy with the “steady incline” of their progress and that their record deal was like an early Christmas present.

He added: “We’re in a privileged position where we are being paid to make music. It doesn’t get much better than that.”
