Dancing flowers take centre stage at Leamington gallery

The romance and bold quality of the lily has captivated artist Miriam Zevalking, whose show Kitsch Lilies goes on display at Gallery 150 in Leamington tomorrow (Tuesday).

She began working on the kitsch theme last year, which led on to what she describes as an “obsession” with lilies.

She said: “The lily is romantic and showy, given boldly in love to brighten and cheer the one it beholds. Lilies intrigue me - their simplistic yet engrossing shadows, curling petals and bright colours make them seem lit from within. The flower seems to dance on the page and canvas. This gave me hope - despite its fleeting life, the lily is happy and radiates positive energy.”

The gallery in Regent Court is also exhibiting works by 2012 A-level art students at Kenilworth School. Entry is free.
