Music promoters In The Moment present an evening named Jazz On A Summer’s Day at the Spa Centre from 7.30pm.

The film Jazz On A Summer’s Day recalls the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival. Its world-class musical line-up includes all-time favourites such as Louis Armstrong and George Shearing, gospel queen Mahalia Jackson and blues artists Big Maybelle and Chuck Berry, modernists like Thelonious Monk, Chico Hamilton and Gerry Mulligan, and singers Anita O’Day and Dinah Washington.

The line-up is musically eclectic and racially integrated in this snapshot of pre-Civil Rights America. It is shot in colour and intercut with sequences from the Americas Cup yacht races taking place off Rhode Island, the film presents. Jazz writer Matthew Wright will give a short introduction to the film.

Following the screening there will be live jazz upstairs in the balcony bar by Adrian Litvinoff and Friends playing modern jazz and standards.

Tickets cost £10 in advance and £12 on the day.
