Versatile Towers quickly up to speed to salvage a useful point for Brakes

Brakes fell behind to Rob Hopley’s 12th-minute strike which Holleran admitted was “put on a plate” for the Seagulls skipper but fought back to gain a deserved point to stem a run of three successive Conference North defeats.

It was just reward, too, for Towers who, after rejoining Brakes in the summer, has had to bide his time on the bench while Lee Chilton and Matty Dodd impressed out wide.

However, Holleran said that despite the midfielder’s versatility, it is in a supporting striker role that he feels his talents are best suited.

“We did it with him in pre-season when he was in and around the striker and we thought it would give us a bit more mobility at Colwyn,” said Holleran.

“The pace of us breaking, with Lee Chilton, Towers and Matty Dodd supporting Stefan caused them problems all game.

“We all know what a good player Jamie is and it is an area he played in when he scored all his goals for Barwell - it is an area we think he can be effective for us.”

One casualty of Brakes’ midfield riches is Sam Adkins.

Adkins has found chances limited over the past two seasons and, having failed to make the 16 for the games against Boston and Gloucester, Holleran has allowed him to make the move to Stratford Town.

“We had to make the decision as to how much he was going to play and is he going to be effective in the Conference North,” said Holleran.

“Him moving on is the best for both parties.”

Leamington will face another stern test tomorrow with the visit of high-flying Altrincham.
