Shearsby drops his side in it

After gaining a creditable point at FC Stratford on Saturday, Kenilworth Town boss Barry Shearsby was left questioning his players’ commitment following a 2-1 defeat at Perrywood on New Year’s Day.

Goals from substitute Jamie Wheeler and Matty Lendon helped Town fight back from 2-0 down to draw on Stratford’s 3G pitch.

However, Town were hampered by three players failing to turn up for Tuesday’s match at Perrywood, with an early injury to keeper Ross Davis only adding to their woes.

Shearsby was forced to come on between the sticks, but he was powerless to stop the hosts taking a 1-0 lead into the break.

He was culpable for the second, however, spilling a soft shot at the feet of the onrushing striker, who made no mistake.

Wheeler scored a consolation after good work by John Dormer, but after the match Shearsby was in no mood to take the positives.

“We didn’t deserve the points and were let down badly by absent team-mates,” he said.

“With no game for us on Saturday, myself and the coaching staff need to assess the squad and see who wants to be part of it.”
