Kenilworth Lions, Kenilworth Round Table and the Kenilworth Rotary Club will all provide £5,000 each to the cash-strapped centre, with the possibility of continuing the funding for the next two years.

The money will help to balance the books and to expand the centre’s services following the withdrawal of funding from Kenilworth Town Council and the centre’s decision to downsize.

John Whitehouse, chair of trustees at the centre, said: “This is fantastic news. After a tough few months for the centre, I’m delighted to be able to announce such a positive display of support for our ongoing activities.

“The three clubs have quite a lot of reach through Kenilworth, and they’ve said this is an organisation they want to support, so I think it’s a vote of confidence for us.

“Earlier in the year we had a lot of local support with the petition to save the centre but this is something more tangible.

“We’ve had links with the three clubs right from the early days, and the Round Table gave us quite a substantial grant when we first started.”

Paddy Murphy, president of Kenilworth Lions, said: “We’re very happy to be backing the Kenilworth Centre in this new way, in conjunction with the other two clubs. This is an important local charity, and very worthy of our financial support.”

Stuart Greenwood, Kenilworth Round Table president, said: “Round Table gave a lot of help to the Kenilworth Centre in its early days, and we’re very happy to be doing so again.

“We’re confident that the trustees have the passion and desire to make it work.”

John Boothroyd, president-elect of Kenilworth Rotary Club, said: “We’ve worked closely with the Kenilworth Centre’s trustees over the past few months, and are confident they’re on the right road to financial sustainability.”

The funding could continue into 2017/18 and 2018/19 following yearly reviews of the centre’s finances.

The centre is also expected to apply for the £7,500 grant that Kenilworth Town Council said it would offer to fund the centre’s youth outreach work.
