Leamington Music will welcome an internationally renowned string quartet to kick off the 2015 series with the opening concert.

The Jubilee Quartet will play the first monthly concert of the new year when the foursome comes to the Pump Room on January 30.

Leading the young group is Czech violinist, Tereza Privratska who studied at London’s Royal Academy.

She is joined by Paula Muldoon (violin), Stephanie Edmundson (viola) and Lauren Steel (cello) who will all play at the venue for the first time.

Their programme will include Mozart’s Quartet in Bb K589, Bartok’s Quartet No 3 and Mendelssohn’s Quartet in A minor Opus 13.

Festival director, Richard Phillips said: “The Jubilee Quartet played for Leamington Music at Barford church in 2012 which happened to coincide with Jubilee celebrations.

“They impressed the audience that evening and I am delighted that we now have the quartet playing in our prestigious winter series.”

The Jubilee Quartet has won prizes in competitions across the world, most recently taking second prize in the Karol Szymanowski quartet competition in Poland.

The group will also be involved in an education programme, giving workshops in schools across the district.
