Live music is set to return to a Leamington landmark.

Armonico Consort will give the first concert in Leamington Spa’s Assembly Rooms in the Royal Pump Rooms since the venue closed during lockdown.

The concert Thursday October 1 will feature the Warwick-based choir’s award-winning programme Naked Byrd, a collection of the world’s finest choral music – featuring Barber, Byrd, Allegri and Tavener – interwoven with the timeless, magical chants of Hildegard of Bingen.

Their hugely popular CD was awarded five stars in the national press.

The Consort will return to the Royal Pump Rooms on Thursday October 29 to play Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons with the internationally-renowned baroque violinist, Rachel Podger.

The concert programmes were selected following a survey of Armonico Consort’s audience members. Christopher Monks, Armonico Consort’s artistic director, said: “We asked our audience which programmes, from the past ten years, they would like to hear again post lockdown, and overwhelmingly top of the list came Naked Byrd.

"The wide range of pieces is united by the tendency of their composers to wear their hearts on their sleeves and their ability to fix a sense of raw emotion on paper.”

The hour-long concerts will take place without an interval, with a reduced capacity and all necessary safety precautions in line with government regulations.
