Warwickshire quartet Lisa Smith, Moira Parsons, Matt Wordingham and Andy Smith narrowly failed to secure home glory on the final weekend of the Bowls England National Championships at Victoria Park.
Welford-on-Avon’s Parsons teamed up with the Avenue trio to reach the final of the mixed fours competition where they faced Devon (Sophie Tolchard, Harriett Stevens, Lee Haywood and Ryan Whitlock).
However, despite leading 15-12 after 16 ends, Warwickshire were stunned by a full house of eight shots by their rivals on the 17th and went on to suffer a 28-18 defeat.
Earlier, Warwickshire scored a seven on the third end to set themselves on the way to a 20-14 victory over Kent’s Chelsea Petley, Diane Reeves, Colin Goldsmith and Shaun McCaughan in the last four.
Devon reached the final after a near four-hour tussle against Worcestershire in which they triumphed by just two shots.
Warwickshire’s Amy Rose Bowl side, containing Helen Slimm, Hannah Smith and Georgina Cooper, bowed out in the quarter-finals after a 48-34 defeat at the hands of Surrey.
