Southam United lose a '˜true gent' in Hancocks
Southam United club president and stalwart Bobby Hancocks died on Tuesday, aged 80.
Bobby made his debut as a 15-year-old and for more than 60 years was a committed player, official and supporter of the club for whom he made more than 1,000 appearances and scored over 1,000 goals.
Bobby, who once turned down the chance to join Fulham in the 1950s, turned his hand to virtually every role at the club and latterly took charge of ground maintenance until ill-health forced him to call it a day.
Chairman Charles Hill paid tribute, saying: “He loved coming to support the club and we were lucky to have him.
“We have lost a true gent.”
The club will be holding a minute’s silence for Bobby before Saturday’s game at home to Lichfield.
