Despite the long journey south, Leamington started brightly and almost scored in the first minute.

However, Jersey soon regained their composure and took the lead five minutes later, firing in an unstoppable shot from a penalty corner after Leamington’s defence was penalised for initially breaking early.

Leamington were not downhearted and continued to plug away with Lucy Shepherd and Louise Bottrill breaking up repeated Jersey attacks and Jo McClean performing heroics in goal.

They also looked dangerous in attack through Charlie Quayle, Liz Solman and captain Sarah Gambling, but struggled to create clear-cut opportunities against a tough Jersey defence.

The second half saw more Leamington pressure but, frustratingly, they were unable to convert their chances.

They maintained the pressure right up until the final minute when they were awarded a penalty corner.

However, Jersey cleared their lines to book their place in the final for a second successive season.

Elsewhere in the ladies’ section, the already-promoted 1sts were held to a 3-3 draw at the University of Birmingham while the 2nds hammered Long Buckby 5-0.

The 3rd XI, playing with a depleted team and no recognised goalkeeper, lost 13-1 at top-of-the-table Atherstone while the 4th XI went down 5-0 at Stratford.
