The title bout threw up a real mix of styles with Quartermaine’s aggressive come-forward approach pitted against the more conventional boxing favoured by Beech.

The first round saw Quartermaine set the pace as Beech tried to keep the action at long range.

As the round wore on, the body shots of Quartermaine began to take their toll and the Pleck boxer was understandably keeping himself on the back foot, returning to his stool with a clear deficit to make up.

Beech enjoyed more success in the first minute of the second round but again the relentless pressure took its toll and Quartermaine finished the stronger of the two.

The all-action Quarermaine showed no signs of slowing up in the third round and the doctor was called upon to check on a cut above Beech’s eye.

With only seconds remaining, he was allowed to see out the bout, but there was no doubting Quartermaine was a clear winner when it went to the judges.

Both boxers, however, received the praise of the referee after an outstanding contest.

Next up for Quartermaine will be the senior ABAs in April.
