Win for Remain campaign in Warwick district EU referendum vote

Most voters in Warwick district bucked the trend to back Britain to stay in the European Union as the nation voted leave in the EU Referendum.

The result was announced by the district council from Stoneleigh Park where the count took place overnight.

A total of 47,976 people voted to remain in the EU while 33,642 voted to leave (Remain 58.8%, Leave 41.2%). The turnout for the Warwick district was 79.4 per cent.

In Stratford district people voted to exit with Leave getting 40,817 votes (51.6%) to Remain’s 38,341 votes (48.4%). The turnout was 80.8 per cent.

In neighbouring Rugby voters also chose Leave, with a larger majority. Leave polled 33,199 votes (56.7%) to Remain’s 25,350 votes (43.3%). Turnout was 79 per cent.
