Spooks galore this half term across south Warwickshire

With Halloween coinciding with this year’s autumn half term school holiday, there are plenty of frightful goings-on for children to get spooked by across south Warwickshire.

Hatton World is giving out free pumpkins to every participants in its daily carving competitions from tomorrow (Saturday) until Sunday November 3, while the attraction is also running a pumpkin hunt. For details, call 843411.

Children can also follow spooky clues to earn a sweet prize at Stoneleigh Abbey’s Halloween trail, running until Halloween (Thursday October 31). On Wednesday at 7pm and 7.45pm, costumed guides will be recounting tales of the darker side of the Abbey’s history - encompassing murder and madness. Tickets cost £18. Over 15s only. Call 858535.

There are Halloween trails at Kenilworth Castle and Charlecote Park near Wellesbourne, where there are also family deer safaris from Sunday to Monday at 11am and 2pm each day. Call 01789 470277. Foundry Wood in Leamington is hosting its Halloween activity on Thursday from 11am to 3pm, while the community woodland is also running bird-box making workshops on Sunday at 11am and 1pm, a ‘Big Draw’ art day on Monday from 11am to 3pm and a pine-cone firelighter-making workshop on Tuesday from 2pm. Those wishing to escape the Halloween madness can seek refuge at the Market Hall Museum in Warwick, which is hosting Brilliant Birdlife craft activities on Wednesday at 10.30am and 2pm. The activity is also taking place at Leamington library on Friday November 1 at 2.30pm. Also on November 1, St John’s House Museum in Warwick is running an Ingenious Inventions activity from 10.30am to 3.30pm. Places cost £2.50 per child for both these events and there is no requirement to book ahead.

Mr Karting in Leamington is again running its school holiday offer of three ten-minute karting sessions for £20. All safety equipment is supplied, as well as a safety briefing and lap time print out at the end of every session. Minimum age eight years and minimum height 52 inches. For details, call 833444.
