Mums-to-be in south Warwickshire are being invited to get fit whilst raising funds to help prevent deaths in childbirth in vulnerable communities.
As part of a new fundraising scheme, for every pregnant woman who takes part in the Expectations antenatal exercise classes in Kenilworth, a minimum of £3 will be donated to the charity Women and Children First.
The charity works to fight the high levels of death, illness and disability in mothers and newborn children living in some of the world’s most vulnerable communities.
Phys-ogue, the south Warwickshire-based pre- and postnatal fitness business which runs the Expectations class, has supported the charity for the past two years and has committed to donating the sum. Every woman who signs up to the class will also have the chance to match or increase their donation.
Fitness instructor Bernadette Fogarty, who is also a qualified midwife and nurse, said: “Having spent many years supporting women through pregnancy and birth as a midwife, this charity is close to my heart.
“We are so lucky in this country to have a fantastic maternity service and incredible levels of accessible information. We take so much for granted and forget sometimes that the reality for many women in the world is to be in fear of losing their lives just because they are pregnant.”
