Some of these warnings are in place due to high levels of water due to previous rainfalls, with Storm Christoph to bring further downpours this week.

According to Gov.uk, this level of flood warning means there are certain steps you need to take in order to prepare, which are:

turn off gas, water and electricity

move things upstairs or to safety

move family, pets and car to safety

You can also find out if you’re in an area at risk from flooding by entering your postcode into the location finder at https://flood-warning-information.service.gov.uk/long-term-flood-risk.

In many flood risk areas, you can also sign up for flood warnings by visiting https://www.gov.uk/sign-up-for-flood-warnings.

These warn of the risk of flooding from rivers, the sea and groundwater.

You will be alerted by phone, email or text when flooding is expected. However, it’s worth noting that flood warnings and alerts are not available in all areas.
