Warwick schools celebrate kindness and support shown by the community during the pandemic

Two schools in Warwick have celebrated the kindness and support shown by the community during the pandemic.

Emscote Infant School and All Saints’ C of E Junior School, representatives of Churches Together in Warwick and members of the local community came together to plant four new trees outside the Infant School this week.

The tree planting was a celebration of the many acts of kindness that residents and key workers have bestowed upon each other over a very challenging year, from making a shopping delivery for someone shielding, displaying a rainbow in a window in support of care workers or just staying in to protect the NHS.

Cllr Jody Tracey, said: "This has been a fantastic community project for the children to be involved in not only helping us in our efforts as an Eco school, but also allowing the children to be part of a long-standing reminder of what we can achieve when we work together. "

The trees were selected by members of the public in an online poll, which received more than 170 votes from a shortlist provided by Warwickshire Forestry.

The four trees chosen were:

~ Flowering Chery Accolade

~ Japanese Zelkova

~ Pride of India

~ Box Elder Tree

Jon Queralt, Associate Head, said: "I feel very proud of the community that I work in, I am constantly amazed at the dedication of professionals I work with and to the extent people have looked after each other. A great example of what a community should be."

Cllr Tracey added: "I think this is a great initiative that has brought the community together and serves as reminder of the importance of neighbours and community spirit.

"A special thank you also to all that voted."

Key workers planting the trees included Nurses, Police Officers, Care Workers, Henry VIII Charity, St Edith’s House, The Gap Community Centre, who were joined by pupils and adults from Emscote Infant School and All Saints’ C of E Junior School and Bishop David Evans.
