The owners of a karting business are looking forward to reopening next week after relocating sites.

In August 2020 the owners of Mr Karting, the Stretton family, announced it would not be reopening its site in Harbury Lane near Leamington.

Like many other businesses Mr Karting closed to the public during the lockdown but the Stretton family said they were unable to reopen due to operation restrictions and costs as well as the 'huge debts' they had gained during the lockdown.

In November 2020 the business was able to relocate to Adventure Sports in Wedgnock Lane in Warwick - and they will be reopening on March 29.

Steve Stretton said: "We had originally hoped to start at Adventure Sports at the beginning of November and ran a few events for the first four days and got delayed due to the covid restrictions and them we then ran a few events in December until we got delayed again in January.

"Steve Richardson, the owner of Adventure Sports approached me in August to say how sorry he was that we had to shut down and would we be interested in meeting him to discuss the possibility of us teaming up with them to run their karting.

"We open on March 29 as we are an outdoor facility. The whole site is able to open from this date offering all their activities including shooting, archery, axe throwing, paintball and so on."

At the Harbury Lane site Mr Karting was an indoor karting circuit and now due to the move it will now be an outdoor karting track.

Steve said: "We are now outdoors where as before we were inside.

"The karting area which has been there for many years occupies a part of the 100 acre Adventure Sports site set in picturesque woodland.

"We will be offering most of the karting events we offered previously including birthday parties, arrive and drive sessions, head to head and grand prix racing for children from eight years old and adults.

"Previously Adventure Sports only offered adult karting.

"When restrictions allow we will re-introduce our popular junior race school and junior and adult open sprint race series championship.

"We are really excited and can’t wait to get started again and are so pleased that the well established name of Mr Karting can continue.

"Mr Karting is back, the same award winning karting we are known for, but now in the great outdoors come rain or shine, 7 days a week

"We can’t wait to see our old customers, many of whom have already been in touch and are booking sessions for when we are open and we are also looking forward to offering a great karting facility to many new customers who want to try their hand at karting.

"We have full covid procedures in place to provide everyone a safe place to come."

Steve said that this new venture was also a story of two rivals coming together.

He said: "This is a story of two businesses who were competitors combining forces to get back on track after a year of covid and I really can’t thank Steve Richardson enough for giving us this opportunity to run their karting.

"He has a great team and they have made us feel very welcome and we are really looking forward to being a part of them. Most of our staff have come with us so the faces you will see will

be the same as before.
