The new all-weather pitch at Racing Club Warwick is now ready for action.

The new 3G artificial pitch is part of an 18-month long project to upgrade the Warwick District Council owned venue in Hampton Road, replacing the grass pitch which had been prone to flooding with weather resistant turf.

In addition to £150k from the District Council and a successful grant awarded by the Football Foundation, the project has received funding from the King Henry VIII Charitable Trust and Warwick Town Council.

Cllr Jan Matecki, Warwick District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Culture, said: “After such a difficult year, it’s very rewarding to know that the long held plans for these wonderful new facilities have now become a reality for Racing Club Warwick.

"The new pitch, will provide a fitting home for the club and become a valuable asset for the whole community.

"This will give even more local people the opportunity to take part in sporting activity throughout the year without weather or access restrictions.”

Gary Vella, Chairman of Racing Club Warwick, said: “The new 3G pitch will be a real community facility, enabling the club to link in with other junior clubs and partners from within the local area to provide a venue that is accessible for all.

"We now have a top quality playing surface for our first team, every day of the week. We can also host all of our training and games, expand the academy and offer facilities to other junior sides in the area alongside our plans for women's, girls and disability football.

"We can’t wait to get the go ahead to start up again."

Racing Club Warwick is planning an official opening of the new pitch, later in the year, once national restrictions are lifted.
