Jindy Sangha's late grandfather Sarban Singh Sangha suffered from dementia.

He died in 2005.

Jindy, 23, still has fond memories of living with him in Leamington and she wants to support the charity and raise awareness of the condition.

She is taking part in the cause's lockdown challenge for dog owners to walk a total of 100k with their pets and has been taking photos of Aika, an American Akita who is four months old, on their travels and posting them on Instagram.

The pair started off by walking around parks in London, where Indy moved for university in 2016, but they moved back to Leamington to live with her family during lockdown and have been visiting the green spaces around the town.

Indy said: "We started at the beginning of March and I’ve been taking it slowly with Aika as she’s quite young.

"I'm trying to raise £500 and people can follow our progress on the Instagram account I have for Aika @aika.theamericanakita.

"Considering we’re in the middle of a pandemic, I’m trying to make it as fun as possible.

" I’ve been visiting all the parks I can.

"I’ve been to Chiswick House & Gardens, Furnivall Gardens, Hyde Park, Richmond Park, Battersea Park, Ravenscourt Park & Ruislip Lido.

"I love travelling and exploring and not only am I doing this in memory of my grandpa, who was very well known in Leamington, but for all the people who suffer from dementia and to stay active and sane during Covid.

"I’ve loved every minute of it.

"My grandfather was a very kind man who used to sit on the wall on the corner of our street at the time and wave at everyone on Grosvenor Road despite having dementia, he would join his hands when seeing anyone - this is a sign of respect in the Punjabi culture.

"He was a great man."

Jindy has also set up a Facebook page for people to follow her and Aika's progress and to make donations https://www.facebook.com/donate/331304491650089/
