Tom Head's wife Marlene, 69, died in September 2018 after she was hit by the car of driver Samantha Kutty when she was crossing the road in Camberwell Terrace.

Kutty was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison suspended for two years after pleading guilty to causing death by careless driving.

She was also ordered to do 120 hours' unpaid work and banned from driving for three years, after which time she will have to take an extended test.

Mr Head said: "My wife truly was my world and my life has been left in ruins by her loss.

"My wife had spent much of her life teaching in Warwickshire and there was significant county-wide interest/reportage in the incident and subsequent court proceedings and which included requests for me to take part in interviews though, at the time, I was not in any fit state to undergo publicity.

"Even after over 18 months have passed the tragedy of my wife's unexpected loss still plays out daily.

"The devastating consequences of road fatalities upon remainder families must be repeating themselves throughout Warwickshire and, indeed, up and down the country. In an effort to retrieve something positive from my wife's death I am embarking on a road safety campaign in my late wife’s name which is being supported by Warwickshire Police."

Mr Head has launched Marlene's Legacy with the aim of reminding or educating road users to drive, cycle, ride or walk on public roads in accord with the Highway Code, thus improving road safety for all.

He has set up the Facebook page titled Make Our Roads Safer.

It will include various road safety topics linked to the Highway Code.
