Leamington charity A Band of Brothers (ABoB) is launching a campaign to recruit volunteers by offering men living in and around the town the opportunity to participate in its mentoring programme.

Normally ABoB Leamington mentors young men looking to move on from past experiences of crime, addiction and trauma.

In three years ABoB Leamington has built a community of older men trained to deliver an intense residential rites of passage weekend and 12 -week mentoring programme providing transformative change to those who participate.

A Band of Brothers Leamington at its last residential weekend in October 2019.

ABoB Leamington is asking men aged 25 and older from all backgrounds to come forward to sign up to the one-off six-week version of the programme.

Volunteers will have an opportunity to experience what it is like to be mentored themselves by a trained man from A Band of Brothers.

Geof Elvyhart, conductor of ABoB Leamington, said: “We’re looking for men with life experience, who have been around the block and made some mistakes on the way.

“There is a greater need than ever before for men to step up as role models to the younger generation.”

By stepping forward to take part in this training is a way for men to see authentic role modelling in action by ordinary men who have already been through the A Band of Brothers training programme.

Callum, a younger man who was a participant in a previous ABoB programme said: "I had no self understanding two years ago.

“Having a mentor helped me to widen my understanding and dedicate time to personal growth.

This opportunity to receive six weeks of mentoring is for any man who wants to make a positive difference in his community but can’t currently see himself having what it takes to mentor a young man.
