Kenilworth author releases new novel inspired by her own experiences of motherhood
The uplifting, feel-good book draws heavily on her own experiences of feeling out of her depth with a newborn
A Kenilworth author has released a new novel inspired by her own experiences of motherhood.
Katy Colins’s sixth novel, The Best Is Yet To Come, features a new mum feeling overwhelmed with the way her life has changed since having a baby. It draws heavily on her own experiences of feeling out of her depth with a newborn.
‘I remember that feeling of being a bit shell shocked really!’ Katy, mother to two young children, said.
The story revolves round a developing friendship between two neighbours.
Kay said: "I used to live in a cul-de-sac near Kenilworth Common, not too dissimilar to the one in the novel. My husband would go off to work leaving me and our newborn daughter on our own.
"I remember sitting by the window looking at the cluster of houses opposite and wondering if anyone else felt as lonely or overwhelmed at what the long day had in store for them.
"Having a baby is so momentous yet you’re expected to get on with it, despite not having a rule book to follow (or at least a baby that is willing to follow any rules!).
"I soon had a rough outline of my main characters - an older gentleman who didn’t want to be a burden and a struggling young woman who was finding motherhood harder than she could ever have imagined.
"These two neighbours were both lonely in very different ways. I imagined how wonderful and life-changing it would be if they could come together to help one another and realise that the best is yet to come!’
"It’s an uplifting, feel-good novel that I hope will leave a smile on your face and remind you that you’re never alone. After the tough times we’ve all had recently, we should all be taking care of each other just a little more.
"Despite its take on heavy issues such as loneliness and post natal depression, the novel is an uplifting story of two unlikely friends finding their own way in the world."
The book will be out on March 18 and signed copies are available from Kenilworth Books, Talisman Square. The book can also be pre-ordered. online.
