English Heritage is set to reopen Kenilworth Castle and the Elizabethan gardens this weekend.

Following the closure of all staffed sites in March as a result of the pandemic, the site will be reopening on Saturday June 13.

The site, which has been at the centre of England’s affairs for much of its 900 year history, is one of the very first of English Heritage’s staffed properties to re-open.

New measures have been introduced by the charity to ensure the health and well-being of members, visitors, volunteers and staff, and those who visit over the weekend can expect their day out to be a little different with social distancing in place.

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, visitor numbers will be limited, so all those planning to visit (including members and local pass holders) will have to book in advance on the English Heritage website and arrive during their time slot.

Only those with pre-booked tickets will be permitted entry, although once on site, visitors are welcome to stay as long as they like.

Most of the experience will be outside, where guests can roam while staying two metres apart from others, and for those wishing to explore the castle ruins, social distancing will be in place with a new one way system.

Matt Bulford, Head of Historic Properties West Midlands, said: “Our staff and volunteers here have, been working hard to adapt Kenilworth for reopening.

"We want to reassure our visitors that their well-being is paramount which is why we have put stringent social distancing measures in place as well as reinforcing our high hygiene standards.

"During this time Kenilworth has once again been part of history, shutting its gates while the country battled this pandemic, however all our staff are excited to now reopen and greet visitors this coming weekend.
