Family-owned Warwick wine merchants recognised in national competition

A family-owned wine merchants based in Warwick has been recognised in a national competition.

Wine Poole, which is based at the St Georges Business Park in Lower Cape, was founded in 2008 by Lindsay Poole.

The business supplies wines via a website and also supplies many pubs, bars, restaurants and sports clubs in the area.

Recently the team at the business entered a national promotion for German Riesling wine.

The national promotion - 31 Days of German Riesling- was held in July, which also had a competition element, was organised by Wines of Germany.

More than 100 wine merchants and took part in the campaign to promote and sell the wine and Wine Poole was named as the runner-up in the Best Off-Trade campaign for the 31 Days of German Riesling.

Lindsay said: "We recently took part in a national promotion about German Riesling, which fell out of fashion many years ago.

"Consequently, many people discount German Riesling as a slightly sweet white wine which is not necessarily the case.

"We were delighted to take part in this promotion as we were keen to try to change people’s perception of this classic grape variety.

"As a result many people realised how delicious many German Riesling wines are and the organisers were so impressed with our campaign that we were runners up in the off-trade section of the competition.

“We really enjoyed taking part in the 31 Days of German Riesling promotion as we all love the Riesling grape and genuinely wanted to engage, or in many cases re-engage, people with the delights of this classic grape and the variety of wines it produces.

"We are thrilled to have been awarded the runners up prize in such a prestigious national competition.”
