Students at Royal Leamington Spa College have achieved a strong set of A-Level results despite disruption from the Covid-19 pandemic.

A-level students at the college, which is part of WCG (formerly Warwickshire College Group), achieved an overall pass rate of 99.5 per cent.

A perfect pass rate was achieved in 13 of 14 courses at Royal Leamington Spa College, including sociology, psychology, history, business studies, economics, English literature and many more.

Students at the college are also celebrating their BTEC results, which start to be delivered from today, with more over the coming days as the different examining bodies issue results.

This includes students at the college group’s Moreton Morrell College and Warwick Trident College sites.

James Stacey, head of A-levels at WCG, said: “It has been a challenging year for our students but it is fantastic to see their hard work pay dividends with this excellent set of results.

Joshua Zaparaniuk from Warwick scored a perfect set of BTEC results after changing courses twice to find his future career.

Joshua, 20, achieved triple Distinction* in BTEC National Extended Diploma in creative media practice at the Leamington college.

The results come after he tried his hand at A-Levels and another course at the college, before he settled on following his passion in the creative industries.

Eleanor Martin was ‘utterly shocked’ to achieve the A-Level grades she needed to get into the University of Birmingham to study Philosophy.

Eleanor, 18 from Leamington, opened her results to find out she had achieved an A in Philosophy & Ethics, A in Criminology and Distinction in Applied Law.

Oliver Lawrence achieved a double A* in his A-Levels and is now heading to King’s College London – where he hopes to build the foundations for a career in the music industry.

Oliver, 20 from Leamington, achieved A* in Economics, A* in History and an A in Maths.

Grace Debruyne has enrolled on another course at Moreton Morrell College after completing her BTEC Extended Diploma in Horse Management Level 3 course with three Distinction* grades.

The 18-year-old who lives in Whitnash will now study a Performance Coaching Degree.

Arnold Lodge School in Leamington Spa is celebrating another exceptional set of results for A-level pupils.

Of all grades awarded, 21% were at A*, 58% at A*-A, 69% at A*-B and a 100% pass rate.

Among the individual success stories were Anna who achieved 4 A*s and 1 A grade in English, Sociology, Geography, German and French; Aaron who achieved AAB in Maths, Physics and Geography and Luke who achieved AAB in English, History and Geography.

Headteacher, Mr David Preston, said: “We are so pleased with an exceptional set of A-level results.

“Over the past two years, I have been tremendously proud of how hard the pupils have worked and the success they have achieved is a wonderful reflection of their dedication to their studies.

“All of our Year 13 pupils now progress their studies at university– we are looking forward to hearing about their continued future successes.”

In spite of the unprecedented challenges that the last 16 months have presented, Princethorpe College is celebrating an excellent set of A-level results.

Out of a cohort of 104 students who completed their A-levels, BTEC and Extended Project Qualification this year, at the top end 55% of all A-level grades are A* or A and overall 95% of grades are A* to C.

Impressively, 39 high-flyers achieved three or more A* or A grades.

Special mention must go to Sophie Cheshire, James Gallagher, Charlotte Lister, Lauren Mason, Grace McGrory, Prajeet Prabakaran, Alex Rejali, Carmel Spelman and Daisy Walker who all achieved straight A*s.

Ed Hester, headmaster, said: "This year’s A-level results have been arrived at in a very different way to normal. That said we are delighted that the results are a fair reflection of the hard work and achievements of this extremely talented year group.

“Our Upper Sixth remained resilient during their time in the Sixth Form which included various periods of lockdown, home learning and self-isolation which for many, was very tough.

"It has been an extremely demanding time but happily the overwhelming majority have been accepted to study at their university of choice.

Pupils at Campion School have once again, achieved very highly, securing places at top universities as well as competitive apprenticeship programmes.

The school has achieved a 100% pass rate in A levels, with 51% of pupils achieving grades A* or A, and 93% achieving grades A* to C. Pupils studying BTEC qualifications have achieved equally high with a 100% pass rate, and 88% of pupils achieving Distinction* or Distinction grades.

The results continue to be positive and are consistent with the school’s performance over the past five years.

"During this incredibly tough time for us all, they are able to work harder, smarter and show empathy in order to support others.

Southam College students achieved the best results in the school's history.

Their A level pass rate with grades A*-E was 100% with A-level A*-B being 75.1% and their A-level average point score was 42.45.

Students also had a 100% BTEC pass rate with 85% achieving distinction or distinction * grades.

Their BTEC average point score was 40.51.

Some notable students performed exceptionally well.

They were Seb Preist (A*,A*,A*), Samantha Parbutt (A*,A*,A*), Oli Kirk ( A*,A*,A*), Jonny Fletcher (A*,A*,A*), Lucas Evans (A*A*A*) Daniel Chand (A*A*A*), Freya Bignold (A*A*A*) and Cara Andrews (A*,A*,A*).

Other students of note were Rebekah Nicoll (Dist,Dist, Dist *), Toby Travers (A* Dist, Dist*) and Anthony Furborough (A ,A, Merit).

Headteacher Ranjit Samra said: "Our students and staff have worked exceptionally hard and should be hugely proud of their achievements.

"I want to congratulate every student for the resilience they have shown in adapting to the challenges of the last 18 months.

For the second year running, students at North Leamington School have achieved excellent A level grades despite the cancellation of national examinations.

This year grades were determined using a wide range of assessment material in school, due to the interruptions students faced throughout significant periods of their courses.

Despite these additional challenges, NLS students continued to access the highest grades, again being offered to study a wide range of courses such as Astrophysics, Criminology, Design, Economics, Engineering, English, Law, Maths, Psychology, Sciences and Veterinary Medicine to name a few, at universities which include Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Exeter, Liverpool, Loughborough, Manchester, Nottingham and Newcastle.

Twenty students achieved all A*- A grades in their three or four A Levels and the average grade across the year group was B+ improving on last year’s B.

Also, 94% of students, who applied to study at university accepted either their first or second

choice university offer

Nineteen students, who chose an alternative pathway to UCAS, have secured placements on higher or degree level Apprenticeship courses or are heading straight into employment or

gap year.

The school's Head of 6th Form, Rosie Hase, said: “I am so proud of all our Year 13 students, leaving NLS with impressive A Level and BTEC results and being successful in securing places at top choice universities or highly rated work place apprenticeships.

"They can now pursue their careers in a range of areas; from Politics to Film and Creative Writing. NLS has a commitment to supporting students to achieve academically and pastorally, and today was an excellent example of seeing that achieved. I wish our students the best of success in the future.”

Headteacher, Mike Lowdell, added: “On behalf of all the staff at North Leamington School, I would like to extend our congratulations to all students, they have worked extremely hard and can quite rightly be very proud of their achievements and we wish them all the luck in their next step destinations.”

The percentage pass grades for A level students at Kenilworth School was A* (15%) , A*A (43.2%), A*-B (69.3%), A*-C (88%) A*-E (99.7%).

27 per cent of students achieved AAB grades in two or more facilitating subjects.

Headteacher Hayden Abbott said: "I would like to congratulate all of our students who have worked exceptionally hard to achieve a very impressive set of A Level results this summer.

"Their results reflect their commitment, drive and resilience during a very difficult period of disruption to their lessons during the pandemic .

"Their achievements are truly impressive and have enabled the vast majority of our young people to continue their studies into higher education or to be able to start apprenticeships.

"The process used by teachers to assess, mark and standardise students work for submission to the Exam Boards has been very thorough and robust.

"I have every confidence that standards of attainment have been maintained and that our class of 2021 will fare well in their future studies, due to their resilience and ability to learn flexibly, through interactive and independent study.

"I firmly believe that students have learnt new skills and the importance of accessing online resources for study and online support to achieve their best. "

Aylesford School hedteacher Tim Hodgson said: "We are once again pleased to celebrate the continued success of our students as they reach the end of their studies in years 11 and 13.

"However, this year we are particularly proud of their achievements and the courage, resilience and tenacity that they have shown by overcoming the many challenges of studying during the pandemic.

"Despite all the obstacles placed in their way they have performed superbly well at all levels with two thirds of our sixth formers receiving distinctions, grade As or better in at least one of their subjects.

"Together with the very strong performance of our Year 11 students in their GCSEs these results are a testament to the determination of our students to succeed and proof, if any were needed. of the bright future that undoubtedly lies ahead for all of them.

"They are a credit to their families, to the staff who worked so hard to support them and to their local community."

Responding to the results, Warwick and Leamington MP Matt Western said: “Well done to all students in Warwick and Leamington getting their BTEC and A-level results today.

“It has been a uniquely challenging year for us all. But it will have been especially challenging for those of you taking your crucial exams - on which future hopes and dreams are contingent - while being forced to adapt to life during a devastating public health crisis.

“I also want to thank all the dedicated teachers and senior leadership teams at our schools and colleges in Warwick and Leamington who have conquered the extremely challenging circumstances to help young people in the constituency realise their potential.

“Together you have faced disruption, disappointment, and isolation only to emerge fighting – with the overwhelming majority achieving fantastic results.
