Nominations open for special Young Person award at Worthies

The Worthies Young Persons Award in memory of Milan Patel has been announced by the Kenilworth Chamber of Trade as the final award for this year.

Chair of the Chamber of Trade Seánna Holland said: “The Worthies are a perfect opportunity to give thanks and recognition to the people and businesses who help put the worth in Kenilworth and this includes the young people of the town.

“We are looking for someone who has overcome adversity or a major obstacle in their life, worked hard to make a positive change within their community, or has led by example to act as a role model to other young people.”

Milan, who attended Kenilworth School and a keen footballer at Kenilworth Wardens, died from a rare form of bone cancer in March 2015, aged just 14.

Since that time, more than £50,000 has been raised for the charity Teenage Cancer Trust in his memory.

The Young Person award which carries his name is open to anyone aged 18 or under who lives at an address with a CV8 postcode.

Nominations for the award close on Tuesday April 28.

The winner of the award, as well as the winners of the nine other categories, will be revealed at a ceremony at the Woodside Hotel on Thursday May 25.
