A KENILWORTH railway station could be built by 2013 if a planning application is approved and funding secured.
Warwickshire County Council has submitted plans to construct a station building, two platforms and a footbridge with parking, access and landscaping on the Bailey Buildbase site in Priory Road.
The county council planning committee is expected to make a decision on the application on Tuesday February 8.
The council will also be applying for funding, to build the station, from the Regional Growth Fund next month.
Cllr Alan Cockburn (Con, St Johns) said: “This is yet another big milestone in the development of the railway station.
“We need to get the planning permission for the station under our belt and secure funding. Even if we don’t get the funding straight away, we are sure we will get it from somewhere eventually.
“Buildbase are expected to submit a planning application to the council to move its business to the old builder’s merchant site in Warwick Road. We need all these plans to be fulfilled so Kenilworth finally gets its station.”
