The woman, who has not been named, was spotted on the roof at around 7am, when the Kenilworth Road was closed off next to the Alder Lane junction.

It was not until the early afternoon that the woman was brought down to safety.

It is understood that her child, who could be around four or five-years-old, was taken to hospital for checks.

The road was reopened in both directions at around 1pm, and nobody is thought to have been hurt.

Officers were urging drivers to avoid the area as work to bring the mother and child to safety continued with West Midlands Police, West Midlands Fire and Rescue, and West Midlands Ambulance Service.
