A man and his friend were walking through Christchurch Gardens and saw a man and a woman arguing. When they tried to intervene, the man who had been arguing proceeded to assault the two men.

One man, in his 30s, suffered slight facial injuries and a suspected concussion from a punch to the face and the friend he was with received a glancing blow to his neck.

The male suspect is described as mixed race, aged in his early twenties, 6ft tall and of skinny build.

He ran off from the park in the direction of Lillington.

The woman involved in the argument is described as white, in her early twenties, with dark hair and dark clothing.

She remained to help the victim after he was knocked unconscious but disappeared before the police arrived at the scene.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the event and urge members of the public to call 101, quoting incident number 50 of 19 March.
