Ron Reynolds first laid eyes on his wife Vera (nee Thornton) when she worked as a shorthand typist and he as a clerk at Warwickshire County Council.

After requesting permission from Vera’s father, Ron proposed to his love on Christmas Day 1951 - the day after Vera’s birthday - but was soon called up to serve in the RAF.

After he completed his service, the couple were married at St Mary’s church in Warwick on March 17, 1956.

Ron went on to work at Warwick Production, at Pottertons for 20 years and then at MGTS in Coventry for 17 years. He retired in 1994.

Vera took a break from work to have children, then returned to the county council and went on to work in administration at Aylesford School.

After a short period living in Leamington, Ron and Vera spent almost 50 years in Warwick, before moving to Wellesbourne in 2011.

The pair enjoy spending time with their sons Gordon, Colin and Derek, grandchildren Thomas, Ian, Gemma, Henry, Sophie and Jack, step grandchildren Stuart, Heather and Henry and two great-grandchildren Oliver and Delilah.

They also pursue their own separate interests. Ron said: “I have spent many happy years at Warwick Ramblers Cricket Club and I now play bowls Warwickshire County Council Bowls Club. Vera prefers to pursue various hobbies at home.

“We appeared in the Courier when we celebrated out Golden Wedding anniversary and we said that tolerance and laughter was the key to a successful relationship. That is still very true.”

The couple will celebrate by hosting a party at the Hilton Hotel in Warwick on March 21, with around 90 friends and family - including their son Gordon and his family who are travelling from the USA for the occasion.
