Leicester City fan got a dream day out as team lifted the Premier League title

Myton School pupil Ted Whittington, 11, had a dream experience as a mascot for Leicester’s final home game of the season against Everton on Saturday evening which resulted in a 3-1 win for the Foxes and ended with them lifting the Premier League Trophy as Champions in front of a packed out King Power Stadium.

Ted was one of the first to come out on to the pitch before kickoff as he walked out with captain Wes Morgan who is one of his favourite players.

His uncle Nick Carvell, as fellow Leicester fan, had won him the honour in a competition through Barclay’s Bank and it was the first time he had been to see Leicester play.

Ted said: “It was amazing and one of the best days of my life so far.

“To see us lift the Premier League trophy was like a dream but to do it with a 3-1 win as well was even better.

“Walking out with Wes Morgan was such an honour, we had a kick around before the match started but we didn’t get to talk much because he was so focused on the task.”

Ted’s day out involved a tour of the stadium with his fellow mascots and meeting various members of the Leicester Squad, who showed him their skills, and manager Claudio Ranieri.

Ted said: “He was really nice.

“We all thanked him for all he has done this season and he said he should be thanking us for our loyal support and he also signed my shirt.”

Ted was also treated to a bag of memorabilia from the occasion including a special edition bag of ‘Salt and Victory’ flavour Walker’s Crisps which he has said he will always keep sealed.

Leicester have mainly played in the Championship during the years in which Ted has followed them.

He comes from a family of Leicester, Coventry and QPR supporters and his mother Tricia says she likes to remain neutral.

Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez, the PFA’s Player of the Year and Leicester’s Play of the Year is another of Ted’s favourite footballers.

Despite Leicester’s glorious season, Ted remembers 12 months ago when his team had narrowly escaped relegation from the Premier League.

He said: “Europe will be a big test for our squad next season.

“I’ll always hope for us to win things but I realise this could be the best time in the club’s history.”
