Leamington FC to hold fundraising event for Cardiac Risk in the Young in memory of club volunteer's husband

Duncan Phillips was only 39 when he died unexpectedly of a heart condition in April 2013 leaving behind his wife, Beth, and two young sons, Sam and Tom.

Mrs Phillips has organised the event alongside club chairman Matt Turner and her sons are now 8 and six respectively and are avid footballers who play weekly for Brakes in the U9s and U8s Colts teams.

Mr Phillips died of a hereditary heart condition that could have been picked up by a simple, non-invasive test, called an ECG.

As a result, Mrs Phillips and Leamington FC are keen to raise funds for CRY so that they can hold a free heart screening day to test the hearts of 100 young people aged between 14 and 35.

Brakes players, club members and supporters and Mr Phillips’ family and friends are hoping to raise £3.500 to hold the CRY heart screening event.

They plan to walk, run or cycle around Draycote Water on Saturday March 25 to raise the funds.

Coaches, parents and children are taking part and are appealing for people to make donations to the cause.
