Bryan Ferriman, who has been acting at the Loft Theatre for more than 40 years and until recently swam with the Kenilworth Masters, is hoping to raise as much as he can by swimming 1.5km at St Nicholas Park Leisure Centre in Warwick this month.

Although fast approaching his 80th birthday in November, Bryan has kept himself fit throughout his life, having swam for London University in the 1950s, played water polo for King’s College London and continues to swim at Abbey Fields swimming pool in Kenilworth three times a week.

He has completed several 5km charity swims, but since his various surgical procedures over the past eight years, has had to reduce the distances he sets himself.

Bryan said: “The benefits to projects from monies raised by this charity are huge and I am keen to raise what I can when so much of value can flow from it.

“When you think of the many children who die each day of malaria, when a mosquito net costing a couple of pounds is all that is needed, then you do feel making some small effort is almost too little.

“I feel very ready for the challenge.”
