History and heritage opens at St Mary's Warwick

A major exhibition to celebrate Shakespeare and the bible is now open to visitors at St Mary's church.

As part of Shakespeare 400: History, Heritage and Faith, the church is displaying the writer’s First Folio and a first edition of the King James Bible.

As well as offering chance to see the texts - described as “twin pillars of Western society”, the festival will include debates, poetry, film screenings, and talks from actors and writers over two months.

Things will start with a screening of Shakespeare in Love next Friday (April 22). The film will play at 8pm and tickets are £5.

Another major event of the action-packed event is the Good Queen Bess Fest Elizabethan Weekend which will run from May 28 to 30 in collaboration with Kenilworth Castle, the Lord Leycester Hospital and Charlecote Park.

The festival will bring together links to Elizabeth I and Shakespeare who is rumoured to have written A Midsummer Nights Dream after attending celebrations during the Queen’s three-week visit to Kenilworth in 1575.

Entry to see the folio and King James Bible exhibits is £3.50/£2.50 concessions, or £6.50 for a family ticket.
